THE DECK
The Deck is a temporary performance stage and micro-cinema that provides a platform for both impromptu and planned events throughout the Meet in the Street festival. Set in the alley between buildings, it continues the street façade while proposing multiple new uses for the alley space. Castors allow the structure to be to be repositioned in the median between festival days to further engage with the mall.
Designed as a zero-waste structure, it utilizes standard scaffolding systems and reusable materials for the floor and skin. All parts can be disassembled after the festival and reused. The materials are rented for the duration of the project, taking advantage of an existing temporary building material that is durable, resilient, and structurally sound.
The flat decking is elevated slightly from street level to create a stage that can be used for music, poetry, dance, or other live performances both impromptu from the public as well as scheduled festival events. When transformed into a micro-cinema, a summer open-air film series curated by the Denver Film Society can be enjoyed by up to 30 people at a time.
