SILVER LINING
Our shortlisted proposal for a public art piece on the CSU Spur Campus at the National Western Center in Denver, CO looks to the sky for inspiration. Silver Lining takes queues from the water cycle key to agricultural research and outreach in the neighboring Terra building along with the Jeffersonian grid of the American plains and the stock show grounds that once occupied the site.
Clouds take many shapes and personalities. We tend to read meaning, form and even attitude into these ephemeral puffs of vapor. We were drawn to the ‘cumulus humilis’ or humble heap. As an indicator or pleasant weather for hours to come it felt like an appropriate form, a symbol of hope.
Silver Lining is at once a soft form, built from rigid elements but ephemeral, changing in emotion with the weather, seasons, and lighting.
