MILE HIGH HARLEY DAVIDSON
The new canopy of folded steel turns this typical low rise retail building into a local icon, defining a new public plaza for events, creating graphic patterns of shadow on the ground and building, and increasing visibility to draw in new visitors.
A large part of the brief was turning this nondescript retail building into an iconic new home befitting the brand. Sort Studio collaborated with re:architecture and Studio NYL to design a new canopy over a new public plaza to increase visibility and recognition from afar. A woven mesh of steel laid over a dynamic folded structural form defines the canopy, casting shadows on the building and plaza that change with the light.
